ABOUT LIONS
Since 1917 Lions Clubs have offered people the opportunity to give something back to their communities. from involving members in projects as local as cleaning up a park or as far reaching as bringing sight to the world's blind, Lions Clubs have always embraced those committed to building a brighter future for their community.
Each Lions Club is independent as to how it is run and how funds are raised and distributed to whatever needy cause or person they feel they should support
Today, with over 1.35 million members in some 46000 clubs across more than 200 countries, Lions have expanded their focus to meet the ever increasing needs of our global community. The programmes of Lions Clubs International are continually changing to meet new needs and even greater demands, but our mission ,expressed by our motto, has never wavered: "WE SERVE".
OUR CLUB
Chipping Norton Lions Club was started in 1986 by a small group of service minded local people. The Club is dedicated to helping the community, primarily locally in the town and surrounding villages.
The vast majority of funds Chipping Norton Lions raise are from events such as Easter egg raffles in local hostelries, our annual Reindeer Race Night, and a supermarket trolley dash as well as attendance at events such as the Churchill Car Show.
Not a penny of the money raised is spent on administration. The funds are used primarily within the local community and surrounding areas.
Over the years with the support and help of our sponsors and supporters we have made a huge impact on the town and surrounding area, being able to provide:
- 4 defibrillators for community use in the town
- a donation of a mobility scooter to Dogs for the Disabled
- help to Highlands Day Centre, Chipping Norton and Kingham guides
- youth travel bursaries
- electric mobility scooters for those in need
- support for the Royal British Legion Poppy appeal
- help with Chipping Norton Swimming Pool and the Lawrence Home Nursing Team
- the potentially lifesaving Message in a Bottle(see the later page for more information).
We can also help other groups raise funds for their projects or needs by running one of our horse race events. If you are interested contact any of the lions listed below or usethe Contact Us form on this website.
BUT its not all about service and fundraising, though! We also enjoy social events. For more details see our events calendar.
MEMBERSHIP
We currently have 19 members but of course would like more!
Membership is open to men and women . There are no financial or professional barriers..We welcome anyone who is interested in joining. All that is asked is a commitment to be prepared to help those less fortunate than ourselves.
So if you are keen to participate in activities which will benefit and enhance the lives of local people, both individually and as a community and enjoy working together in fellowship to help others you will be made very welcome. It also helps, by the way to have a sense of humour!
